The data on persons employed in societies also comprise data on society branches and youth councils, and data on institutes comprise data on religious communities having the humanitarian organisation status. The data excludes the societies, institutes and institutions that have been established by the Republic of Slovenia, municipalities or other public sector entities.

The number of persons employed in NGOs has been growing in recent years despite the economic crisis. In recent years, the number of persons employed has been growing in all NGOs except for institutions where in 2015 the number decreased for the first time by 16%, and also in 2016 by further 24%.

More than a half of the persons employed in non-governmental organisations are working in institutes, followed by persons working in societies and in institutions.

A great majority of NGOs (as much as 92.2%) don’t have a single employee, the largest percentage to be found in societies (as much as 94.9%) and the lowest in institutes (71.6% of all institutes). The highest numbers of persons employed are to be found among institutes, which generally employ more than a half of all workers in the sector. There are 5.1% of societies, 28.4% of institutes and 8.2% of institutions having at least one person employed.

 
 

THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF PERSONS EMPLOYED IN AN NGO WITH REGARD TO ITS LEGAL FORM

 

On average, each Slovenian NGO has 0.28 employees. There is considerable fluctuation to this average if we consider each legal form separately: on average, each institute has 1.39 employed persons, each institution 0.22, and each society only 0.14 employed persons.
