The data include associations, institutes and foundations. The data on persons employed in associations also comprise data on society branches and youth councils, and data on institutes comprise data on religious communities having the humanitarian organisation status. The data exclude the associations, institutes and foundations that have been established by the Republic of Slovenia, municipalities or other public sector entities.

The number of persons employed in NGOs has been growing in recent years in all NGOs except for foundations, where in 2018 the number increased by 4% and by 1.92 % in 2019.

More than a half of the persons employed in non-governmental organisations are working in institutes, followed by persons working in associations and in foundations.

A great majority of NGOs (as much as 92.26 %) don’t have a single employee, the largest percentage to be found in associations (as much as 95.22 %) and the lowest in institutes (71% of all institutes). The highest numbers of persons employed are to be found in institutes, which employ more than a half of all workers in the sector. There are 4.78 % of associations, 29 % of institutes and 6 % of foundations with at least one person employed.

 

THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF PERSONS EMPLOYED IN AN NGO WITH REGARD TO ITS LEGAL FORM (2019)

 

On average, a Slovenian NGO has 0.33 employees. There is considerable fluctuation to this average if we consider each legal form separately: on average, an institute has 1.54 employed persons, a foundation 0.22, and an association only 0.17 employed persons.
