With the Children’s Council project, we aim to overcome the long-standing national practice of excluding children from discussions and decisions that directly affect them. Within the Network for Children’s Rights, we will establish the Children’s Council, composed of children engaged through our member organisations. Guided by the principle nothing about children without children, they will be invited to participate already in the drafting of the Rules on the functioning of the Children’s Council. After the Rules are adopted, the first Council will be formally established.

We will then empower the Council members through workshops specifically designed for children to strengthen their understanding and practice of active citizenship. Together with the children, we will organise meetings with decision-makers, with the goal of ensuring the adoption of an internal act within the relevant ministry that will secure the Council’s permanent involvement in child-related issues. Together with the children, we will also call on the government to adopt a National Strategy on Child Participation.

What they will achieve:

  • An established consultative structure for children engaged by the Network’s member organisations, enabling them to express their opinions on matters that concern them and to participate in decision-making processes.
  • Children, members of the Children’s Council, will understand the principles of active citizenship, social justice, and the right to participation, and will gain skills in public speaking.
  • Visible progress in including children in decision-making processes on issues relevant to them.
  • The state will recognise child participation in decision-making as a priority task.
